Welcome to Year 5/6!

Weekly Updates

Week Ending Friday, 20th of July

Final preparations for our end of year performance of Bugsy Malone. Year 5 will go off-curriculum and enjoy reading, poetry, art and design activities. 

Please encourage your child to log onto DoodleMaths and use their login details. It's lots of fun and using it daily will help your child to make even more progress. 

Week Ending Friday, 13th of July

Our timetable will change this week due to Year 6 rehearsing for their performance of Bugsy Malone. 

Week Ending Friday, 6th of July

Please remember to send your child in with a water bottle as the hot weather is forecast to continue.

There will be  change to the timetable due to rehearsals for Bugsy Malone but English, Maths and other subjects will continue for Year 5 pupils.

Earth class have cookery on Wednesday.

We are asking Year 6 parents to send a photograph of their child when they were in Reception. A big thank you to parents who have already done this.

We really enjoyed our NED assembly.

N: Never give up!

E: Encourage others to do their best.

D: Do your best! Get rid of 'I know' and help your brain grow.

NED yoyos will be on sale in school and there will be a designated yoyo area.

Our timetable will change this week due to Year 6 rehearsing for their upcoming performance of Bugsy Malone.

Year 5 children will continue to revise key maths and literacy skills during rehearsals.

Our timetable will look different in the weeks to come due to rehearsals for our upcoming production of Bugsy Malone. 

Maths: Our focus this week is on solving problems involving angles and revising our number knowledge through daily practice.

English: Spelling and Reading Vipers

Science: Body changes as we grow

Geography: Mapwork  

Art: Tessellating shapes

Maths: Our focus this week will be on angles.

English: 

Spelling: We will work on key spelling patterns, tricky words and a range of activities to help us learn our spellings. 

SPaG: 

Science: We focus on body changes as we grow. 

PE: We will be preparing for Sports Day.

Art: We will be tessellating shapes to create a piece of artwork.

Music: Singing and performing

This week is assessment week so the timetable will be different. We will also be preparing for Sports Day and carrying out auditions for our upcoming Year 6 producation of Bugsy Malone.

Thank you to all our Year 6 children who have been working really hard in Passport Club.

Maths: Year 5 will continue to work on fractions. Year 6 will be working on reasoning this week. 

English: We will focus on reading this week using our knowledge of VIPERS.

Spelling: We will focus on tricky words and a range of spelling patterns. 

SPaG: Revising key areas

Topic: We will look at the uses of rivers. 

Science: We will explore micro-organisms. 

PE: Orienteering and cricket.

Art: We will continue to work in the style of Monet.

Thank you to all our Year 6 children who continue to attend Passport Club. We're seeing some fantastic learning attitudes. 

Please ensure your child is reading at home on a daily basis and that spellings are being learnt.

English: Year 5 will continue to work on Wind in the Willows and Year 6 will be working on setting descriptions. 

Spellings: We will focus on tricky words and a range of spelling patterns. 

SPaG: Verb tenses

Maths: Year 5 will continue to work on fractions. Year 6 will explore angles this week. 

Topic: Rivers in the UK

Science: We will learn about Carl Linnaeus and his classification system. 

PSHE: Circle time 

Art: Exploring paint with a river theme.

PE: Orienteering and Cricket

RE: We will learn why Jerusalem is important to Muslims, Christians and Jews. 

 

 

 

   

Please remember that we expect your child to read for ten minutes, at least five times a week. This can be their library book, a magazine, recipe book or a book they have chosen. Reading is an essential part of your child's learning. Please sign their reading journals.  Thank you for your continued support. 


Homework and Spellings

Your child will receive weekly spellings to learn at home. We expect our children to read at least five times a week for a minimum of ten minutes. Reading is a very important part of your child's learning. Every child will take home a weekly arithmetic paper and please encourage your child to complete this weekly and return to school.
